Over the last few years the Government has taken the approach of encouraging domestic manufacture and this has been via quality standards (like in toys, footwear and fans – BIS) and also via support measures like PLI schemes. The aim has been to establish the entire value chain in India especially in areas like electronics and medical equipment. It is unlikely that this approach will change to one where cheaper substitutes are allowed to be imported.
