Portfolio
Dividend yield funds invest the majority of their portfolio in stocks which are trading at dividend yields higher than a defined index. High dividend yield stocks are usually large, stable, cash-rich companies that are currently trading at low valuations. Dividend yield, therefore, is a strategy to pick quality stocks at low price-earnings. These funds are not required to pay steady dividends to their investors, even if they invest in high dividend yield stocks. The Nifty 500 or BSE 500 can be used as benchmarks to measure performance.
Dividend yield funds suit investors with moderate to high risk appetites. The minimum period for which these funds need to be held is 5 years.
